Cultivating A Journaling Practice

I have struggled for a long time with journaling. I have experienced it’s healing benefits but still have never been able to keep a journaling practice going for long. I have decided that needs to change. I will never achieve my goals if I can’t develop discipline in the areas that mean the most to me.

My first instinct was to get multiple different journals for multiple different purposes. Why I would think of that is beyond me. I would never be able to keep up with that. At least not where I currently am on this journey.

After rolling it around in my head, thinking back to things that I enjoyed in the past, and acknowledging the reality of where I’m at, I think I have come up with something that will work for awhile.

I’ve decided to keep 3 journals. My main one will be a catch-all journal. All of the journals I was originally thinking about will be narrowed down and combined into this one.

The second one will be a left-handed writing journal. I was born ambidextrous and read an article a few years ago about using your left hand to release your creativity. So, this could potentially kill two birds with one stone. Despite being ambidextrous, I never learned to write with my left hand because schools made you pick one hand back then. As I got older, I really resented being pushed to make what really was a detrimental decision. With this journal, I’ll learn to write with my left hand and since I’ll be using the hand that is connected to the creative side of my brain, could potentially access new creativity. I have not been able to find a notebook that I like for this though.

The third one will be a journaling prompt journal. I want to create journaling courses someday with journaling prompts. With this journal, I can try out every prompt I come up with and become intimately acquainted with them before I share them with others.

I must admit though, I’m struggling with what to do with some of the journals I was thinking about originally. I was thinking about having a prayer journal, a pray rain journal, a moon time journal, and a quote journal. I’m not sure that they can really fit into my catch all journal and serve their intended purpose. But I think I need to put them on the back burner for now and focus on starting where I’m at. Once I have the basics down, I can add to it if I think it’s necessary.

New Focus

IMG_20160726_150605495-1It’s been quite some time since I’ve posted anything. In my last post I talked about how my life had changed and how I was trying to adjust. While I was working on this I found this blog and the direction it was headed, very uninspiring. I needed to reevaluate and get this blog going in a direction that is more inspiring to me and hopefully to others as well.

My personal journey for the past few years has been in learning how to use journaling and other rituals to reclaim and embody my femininity and sensuality. I desire to eventually teach journaling and poetry as a form of therapy or mental hygiene. So I need this blog to be a place where I share what I learn with you and hopefully move from sharing to teaching.

Personal Update- Revamping

DSCN0058Wow! Time has really gotten away from me. My life took a crazy turn and I can’t seem to get it together. I won’t go into details but I lost my job as well as the place I was living and ended up having to move back in with my parents who live on the other side of the country from where I was. I had to sell most of my stuff and move into their very crowded spare bedroom. I’m not handling it well. My mind is still completely scattered and I can’t get it working again.  Keep reading “Personal Update- Revamping”

Switching To Natural Deodorant

natural deodorantAbout a year ago, I came to the conclusion that standard deodorants combined with bras were contributing factors to breast cancer. There aren’t any studies that I could find to support this theory but it makes too much sense to me to ignore it. The main ingredient in deodorants is aluminum and you often found other ingredients like phthalates and parabens in them as well which are hormone disruptors and might cause cancer. We know that everything that you put on your skin gets absorbed into the body. Then you have bras which compress the lymphatic system, making it that much harder for your body to remove those ingredients. So, rather than waiting for studies to confirm this, I decided to avoid wearing bras whenever possible and to switch to a natural deodorant.  Keep reading “Switching To Natural Deodorant”

7 Types of Love

types of loveAs a writer and especially as a poet, I am often frustrated with the English language. Many older languages have multiple words to express the nuances of a concept while English can only come up with one all encompassing word. I think we need to take a cue from these older languages and start expanding the English language and I’m not talking about all of these horrible slang words that are just embarrassing.  Keep reading “7 Types of Love”

Secondary Creative Expressions

IMG_20160216_171252395_HDRI’m a firm believer that every single person on this earth has a primary creative expression. Not all of them are what is traditionally considered creative but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t. I’m also a firm believer that having a secondary creative expression is vital, especially for us creatives. We often find ourselves blocked and unable to use our primary creative expression the way that we need to, so we need a secondary creative expression to help us unblock.  Keep reading “Secondary Creative Expressions”

Speak Life

Speak LifeIt’s official! I’m a terrible blogger. I was doing well posting twice a week but that didn’t last long. I’ve been off my game for a while. First I had writer’s block, then I got sick, and most recently I had jury duty. I haven’t been able to get back into the swing of things. But enough excuses. I’ve had something on my mind that I want to talk about.  Keep reading “Speak Life”
